Introduction

Welcome to Real World News' Persecution Watch. We hope to keep you informed on the world wide persecution, prophesied by the Lord Jesus Christ, of those who bear the name Christian (Matt 5:10-12). 

In the USA many times we take our freedom for granted, but the blood of many true Christians was shed to obtain our freedom. 

Today there are over 200 million people in the world who call themselves Christians that are persecuted for their faith. Clearly not all who are called Christians are truly saved believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, because the Bible teaches that in order to be a Christian one must be “born again” (John 1:12-13, 3:5-8; Titus 3:5; 1 Pet 1:23) of the Holy Spirit and the living water of His Holy Word, the Bible (Jer 2:13; Isa 55:6-11; John 4:10, 14; Eph 5: 25-26; Rev 21:6, 22:17). 

However, born again Bible believers believe in the doctrine of “Soul Liberty” which teaches that all have the God given right to examine both Biblical and religious teachings and receive or reject them as our consciences dictate (Josh 24:15; Isa 1:18; Deut 30:19; Psalm 119:30, 111, 173; John 1:12; 2 Tim 1:12; 1 Pet 3:15).  No man has a God given right to persecute another for what he believes in this Church Age.  God will do that in His own time.  But as born again believers we can pray for our persecuted brethren in the world and write to those in power to render assistance to them. 

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” (1 Pet 5:8-9)

Tyrants who repress the freedom of conscience of men should be prosecuted.  This is the duty of the State.   The God given duty of the State is to protect the freedom of its citizens and to prosecute offenders (2 Sam 23:3; Rom 13:3-5).

However, in the past the Roman Catholic Church greatly persecuted believers when it was the State religion just as Islam also did, having murdered 50 million believers in the Dark Ages. Likewise wherever Islam has ever been in power it has persecuted and murder those of other faiths.   Bible believers have always resisted State religions that persecuted other faiths.   Why?   The Bible answers:

“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Cor 10:3-5)

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6:12)

 We oppose State religions like Islam and Atheism (i.e. Communism), etc.   Today these two tyrannical religions are the greatest oppressors of Christians; although Hindus, Buddhists and Catholics are also violators of the Biblical principle of Soul Liberty.   It is the State, and no church or religion, that is responsible to uphold religious freedom and to punish offenders.
